FAQs

There are lots of myths to dispel around positive handling. There is, understandably, a legitimate
‘fear factor’ over making physical contact with a young person, and this can be a real barrier towards
staff engagement and ‘buy in’. We believe there is real value to providing your staff with the
necessary skills in which to keep themselves – and those around them safe. Here are some
frequently asked questions and answers, which we hope will provide further clarity on what it
actually means to deliver quality de-escalation strategies and safe positive handling techniques to
the young people in your setting.
