About De-escalation and Positive Handling

The Tees Valley Education Training Positive Handling and de-escalation team consist of 11 school-based staff who, as part of their day-to-day roles, support children in a variety of ways.  Formed in 2011, the team has evolved and grown, largely due to demand.  We have worked with, and continue to support many schools in the North East (please follow the link to the Testimonials area to read client comments).  Most of our clients book our training via word of mouth from other settings; we have a loyal client base who often re-book our services.

The team proudly shares one single endeavour – to ensure all young people are included and thrive whilst at school, so they feel supported, nurtured and safe, whatever challenges they encounter.

The Tees Valley Education Training team are a diverse mix of senior leaders, teaching and learning staff or safeguarding, pastoral and welfare staff – each of them work in a busy school environment (mainstream and special) as part of their main working role.  We believe this provides the team with the

  • necessary knowledge of the current ‘real life’ pressures being felt in the education sector,
  • pre-requisite skills to ensure staff who undertake our training feel fully safe, supported and skilled when operating in a range of environments with children of all ages and stages

required understanding of law and government guidance on matters relating to de-escalation, safe holds and pupil searches – always asking is it necessary? is it reasonable? therefore it is proportionate
